I thought this was a fun story

My Wife Is The One I Have To Thank For This
One day, I happened to mention that my electric shaver was not cutting my facial hair and was almost useless. She mentioned that her dad used to sharpen rotary head and single head razors as part of his small home business. She mentioned some of the few key points and I proceded to sharpen my old clunker. Since I used it every day it had put on some mileage after about four years of use.
The Procedures Are Simple
Things you will need: small tube of graphite powder, small bristle brush
1- Remove head assembly and carefully dismantle cutting head assembly portion.
2- With a small bristle brush which usually comes with every newly purchased shaver, carefully and thoroughly dislodge all accumulated hair cuttings that also wrap themselves around small cutting blades.
3- When all contact cutting surfaces look clean, reassemble cutting head assembly as it was originally. Snap assembly back to the main housing.
4- Face cutting assembly upward. Shake small tube of graphite powder in order to mix well before using and lightly press flexible plastic tube. Carefully open tube and spray single squeeze onto each of the three cutting heads. Rub in graphite with fingers.
5- Turn on shaver unit, rotating shaver until head faces downward. Let run for about two minutes. This procedure will sharpen all contacting cutting surfaces and will continue to sharpen until graphite is consumed.
When our electric shaving shaver loses its cutting ability most of us just purchase a new head replacement and like new we are back in business. A few of us, both men and women just purchase a new shaver. There is a simple way to save money and not having to replace anything.

The new year always finds millions of people of all ages resolving to begin a fitness or exercise plan. In 2008, there will be more older adults – 50 years old and up – who will be making fitness and activity resolutions. But like others before them, many will start, some will quit and a few will follow through.
In a Dec. 17 press release, the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) offers tips to help older adults find success in their fitness and activity resolutions and goals. The ICAA also has a “Welcome Back to Fitness” website just for baby boomers and their parents. Included are answers to frequently asked questions, information about age-friendly personal trainers, equipment and fitness facilities and numerous tips that can be personalized to an individual's fitness and activity level and needs.
The ICAA was founded by Colin Milner and is said to be the largest membership association geared to the needs of aging baby boomers and older adults, with particular emphasis on wellness and fitness.
Before beginning any significant change in activity or exercise routine, the ICAA recommends getting a medical checkup by your healthcare provider.
Once you're medically approved, decide what activity you might enjoy most, whether that be walking, an organized activity or class, a sporting activity or some combination.
Decide where and with whom you prefer to participate in an activity. Do you prefer walking or exercising alone or with others? Inside or outdoors? In a gym or fitness club or in your own home or neighborhood? Are you interested in meeting new friends and participating in a structured activity? Do you prefer activities in the morning, midday or evening?
Develop a well-rounded routine or fitness plan. The best of programs will include a warm-up, flexibility, cardio, resistance or weight bearing and cool-down.
Once you have a plan, start slowly. Eagerness to get started usually results in overdoing it. That leads to tired and sore muscles, which can quickly discourage a person from continuing with their activity or fitness plan.
Set some specific goals. Short-term goals might be what you'll do or accomplish each week. Long-term goals will focus on something you hope to achieve or be able to do within a certain time frame.
Be realistic in both your short-term and long-term goals. A goal of exercising 30 minutes a day may be unrealistic for many older adults, whereas exercising 15 minutes, three days a week might work well for a baby boomer just getting started.
Don't be afraid to invest in your health and fitness, whether that be spending money to join a fitness club or gym or spending money on a piece of exercise equipment you can use at home. Making better, and sometimes more expensive, food choices can be a worthwhile investment too.
Create a support network. Friends and family who are aware of your resolutions and goals can be a great source of help.
“No pain, no gain” is a bad approach. If what you're doing hurts, don't do it. Instead, work around your pain, versus through it.
Finally, don't give up. Experts say that making exercise a part of your daily life, like brushing your teeth, will reap wonderful benefits and eventually increase your fitness level to levels you may not have expected.

You've probably heard the term Puppy Mill and have seen the video footage of dogs in cramped and filthy cages. But, along with inhumane living conditions, there are other differences between puppy mills versus professional kennels. This article explains the many differences between those who run puppy mills and those who are professional, responsible, breeders.
The biggest differences between professional, responsible breeders and owners of puppy mills are attitude and purpose.
Owners of puppy mills are in it to make money. Profit is their priority and one way that puppy mill operators increase their profit is by running the operation cheaply. Dogs are confined to cages or small runs and suffer from overcrowding and/or long-term confinement. Dogs in puppy mills do not receive all the veterinary care they need because vet care is costly, especially for the larger number of dogs a typical mill has, and most veterinarians will report a puppy mill.
Responsible dog breeders, on the other hand, are not just breeding dogs for money. They want to promote positive characteristics in certain dog breeds. They do make money selling the puppies, but it is a much different situation and the attitude is very different from puppy mills.
Breeders spend money on proper veterinary care. They take good care of the dogs because they care about them, and because they know that animals used for breeding must be well cared for if they are to produce the best litters. Breeders do profit from selling the pups but, after veterinary costs, food costs (breeders are selective about food they feed their dogs) and other costs, they don't profit as much as one might think.
Responsible, professional breeders love dogs and, therefore, take good care of them. They provide proper housing and allow visits to their home. Breeders do not keep dogs in unsanitary conditions or cages with bare-wire flooring or other unsuitable flooring that could injure the dog's paws.
Professional dog breeders are knowledgeable about special needs of the breeds they raise. Also, they are more than willing to discuss the dogs and show the dogs and their facility because they enjoy what they do and they enjoy discussing the breed. The AKC encourages people to visit a breeder's home to meet the dogs and the owner before buying a puppy. Blindly buying a puppy is never endorsed or encouraged.
Responsible breeders know that mental health of an animal is important. Dogs kept in small cages go “stir crazy” and are unhealthy mentally and physically. Breeders will allow playtime– and they know that all dogs, including small dogs such as Pomeranians, need room to move.
Pet stores and puppy mills
Pets of Bel Air, an upscale pet store in Bel Air, California, recently came under fire when The Humane Society of the United States alleged the puppies at the store came from puppy mills. Investigators from the HSUS had traced puppies sold at the pet store to several puppy mills. Pets of Bel Air had told customers that the dogs came from private breeders. It is unfortunate that anyone seeking to buy a puppy should not trust the word of a pet store–but that seems to be the reality much of the time.
Unless a pet store can give you the name and real address of the breeder so that you can speak with the breeder and inspect the home or kennel, do not buy a dog from a pet store. When you buy a dog from a pet store without checking the true origin of the dog, you might be putting money in the pockets of puppy mill operators.
An exception to this is stores such as Pet Smart. Pet Smart, in Kansas and other areas, allows rescue organizations (here the organizations are PALS animal rescue and the Kansas Humane Society) to place pets up for adoption in the stores. These are often rescued pets or pets that have been relinquished by an owner to a shelter. They have received veterinary care and are current on shots.
Puppy mills still exist because they continue to be profitable. In the long run, the way to stop puppy mills is to impact their profitability. The way to do this is to only adopt from shelters, rescue organizations, or from responsible breeders.

Until the last few years, having business cards created was a major undertaking. You could always go the print-at-home route, but the quality is never the same as what you receive from a professional press printing. But every business needs business cards, and most of us don't want to shell out several hundred dollars for a couple hundred business cards.
With the popularity of websites like VistaPrint, business cards no longer fall into home-printed or rich man territory. It's easy to get a full set of the little suckers for less than $30 – even with premium options like glossy finishes and foil accents.
So all that's left is to decide how to go about the design of the card. Smart people know that the business card designs offered “free” through the libraries of websites like VistaPrint aren't going to be unique. Hundreds – or thousands – of other people have cheated their way through by using them. To be unique, we can either pay a professional designer, or we can fire up Photoshop and do them ourselves.
Do you really need to ask which method I opt for, every time? Right. Let's fire up Photoshop.
Business Cards in Photoshop
If you have a specific printer in mind for your business card printing, you'll want to look around their website and locate templates they might offer for you to use. It's important that you work with the printer's accepted file types and their recommended settings concerning dpi and color mode.
Since VistaPrint is likely the most popular service, I'll focus on their needs. You can download a template for their Premium Business Cards here. They require a resolution of 300 dpi (or pixels per inch, in Photoshop-speak), and their template downloads in CMYK color mode.
Now, let's get to designing.
1. Open the Template: Open your template (it doesn't matter which one you're using, this will always work in the same process) in Photoshop. Double-check to make sure that it opens in the right color mode (click “Image”, hover over “Mode”) and that it is the right dpi (click “Image”, choose “Image Size”). If not, make any necessary adjustments.
Most templates will include a set of guides that represent “trim” and “safe margin”. The trim line is where the business card will be cut.. Then, everything inside the safe margin will show on your finished card. Most printers recommend using full bleed – meaning that your colors cover the whole card, going outside the trim – and that your text and other important elements are all kept inside the safe margin. This helps ensure that your card will be fully colored, and that nothing important will be accidentally cut off.
2. Choose Graphics and Colors: If you have a specific graphic (a logo, for example) that you want to include on your business card, open it up in Photoshop. From this graphic, you'll build a color palette that will be used in your card. To keep it professional looking, try to limit your color palette to 3-5 colors. Each color should be used for a specific reason, not just to “look nice”. You have a very small amount of space in which to make a large impact, so make every single element count.
When you're choosing graphics to include, make sure that they're large enough to work on the card. They'll either need to be a 300 dpi image, or an exceptionally large graphic.
3. Set up the Space: First, fill your background with either a light or a dark color. In-between shades make it difficult to read text, because it's hard to find colors that are bright enough or dark enough to contrast well. Of course, you don't have to fill the background at all – you can always stick with white. The biggest factor in deciding what color to use for your background is what color is already used in the background of your graphic(s). In my case, I'll be sticking with white.
Next, use a contrasting color from your graphic to create a text space on your card. This space can be to a side, fill up a third of the card, or any other variation you like (see Illustration 01) – the point is that using a text space makes it that much easier to define the parts of your card, which in turn helps you make a stronger impact with it.
4. Experiment with Fonts: In the text space, lay out your basic information. At the top, and in the largest size text, should be your business name. Directly below that should be your own name, and your title. Additional information would include the variety of ways to contact you, view your work, and purchase items.
Once your information is typed out, experiment with the fonts you use. If you already use a specific font for your business name in things like your website or logo, you'll want to use that same font here. Other than that, it's free game. For the most part, you will want to stick with 2 fonts – a fancy one for the business name, and a plain one for your personal information.
The first illustration accompanying this article is my finished card. I've used Zapfino Linotype for the business name, which is the same font used in all other documents for that website. My information has been typed in Mrs. Eaves, which is a very clean, evenly spaced serif font. Experts instruct that the easiest type of font to read in printed format is a serif font like Times New Roman. It's all up to you.
You'll also notice that there's a pretty large white border around everything in the business card. Remember the trim and the safe margins? That white border just ensures that everything I need included is inside the safe margin, where it is pretty much guaranteed to print without being cut off.
5. Save your Card: Make sure that you're choosing a format that your printer supports. Most printers will support Photoshop's native .psd format. To save as a .psd, just click “File”, and choose “Save As”. If you need to save it in a web-browser supported format, go for a .png so that the graphic will remain 300 dpi after you save. Do not use the “Save for Web” mode, because this will take your image down to 72 dpi.
Great job – now get that baby printed!

A useful article that I found helpful

Read this well written news article. As always, we appreciate our journalists.
Congratulations, you have just graduated from high school, and you've decided to move on and further your education by going to college. At this time your parent's health insurance plan may have dropped you, but don't worry, because there is a resolution… student health insurance.
Types of student health insurance plans include but are not limited to: international health insurance, short term health insurance and supplemental health insurance. When you begin shopping for a student health insurance plan, the first thing you must think about is the type of student health insurance you want to buy. Some colleges offer a basic student health insurance plan, and many insurance companies also offer discounted rates to students. With that said, you may want to consider checking out the plans your college has to offer, and even plans from insurance companies that offer discounted rates to students.
If you're planning to attend college in a different country then you may want to look into international health insurance. International health insurance is usually purchased by people who plan to leave the country for a certain period of time and return later. International health insurance covers medical expenses that you may incur while visiting another country. Some expenses international health insurance may cover are: hospitalization, intensive care, vaccinations, outpatient services, emergency services and ambulance transportation.
Short term health insurance is for new graduates who are job hunting, or for students that are waiting for their new employee benefits to commence. Short term health insurance can usually be extended if needed.
Supplemental health insurance is inexpensive and pays cash benefits. Other than being inexpensive, supplemental health insurance will pay for pre-existing medical conditions, and these conditions are seldom covered by other types of health insurance plans.
Now that you know a little more about the types of student health insurance plans, you'll need to discover what to look for, and what to take into consideration as you're shopping for student health insurance.
The first thing you should look for in the plan is choice of doctors. Will the plan be accepted by doctors in your area? Does your doctor accept insurance from the provider you're considering? Will you be able to choose your own doctor – a doctor you are comfortable with and know a little bit about? Because of the increase in the cost of gas, you don't want to have to travel too far just to see a doctor, and that's why it is very important that you choose a provider that has a list of doctors in your area.
Great, you have found a provider that will allow you your choice of doctors, and the provider also has a list of doctors in your area. However, that's only the first thing to consider when choosing your student health insurance plan. Another thing you need to consider… does the plan cover a specialist? You may not need one now, but you never know what the future holds.
Do you have asthma, heart problems or any other kind of pre-existing medical condition? If so you need to study the plan to make sure they offer coverage for pre-existing medical conditions. Also, if the plan does cover these conditions you need to study further, because some health insurance plans cover only certain pre-existing medical conditions.
Other than specialists and pre-existing medical conditions, some other things you need to check the plan for are: emergency room visits, hospital stays, physicals, prescription drugs, outpatient services, doctor office visits and vaccinations.
Finally, if you're majoring in a career that will cause lifting or back strain, then you need to also look to see if the provider's plan covers chiropractic care.
Here are a few tips to help you while you're shopping for student health insurance:
• Search the Internet using the term student health insurance for Web sites where you can request quotes and information from several different companies. (See the “more resources” box at the end of this article for some Web sites where you can request insurance quotes and information.)
• Don't choose the first plan you come across. Take your time, read all the material sent to you, and choose the student health insurance plan that's right for you.
• Read every part of the fine print and restrictions closely.
• If you're buying international student health insurance, make sure you get the plan set up before you leave the country. Some providers offer immediate coverage.
• Prior to shopping for student health insurance, set down and figure all your monthly expenses so you can select a student health insurance plan within your budget. You now know a little more about buying student health insurance, and you're ready to start the ball rolling. Pull up your browser and shop wisely!

DVD Storage Data
15. November 2009
DVD Storage Furniture is a usually over looked but important piece of your home theater organization. It is utilized to creatively store and organize your movies and games. Be sure to match up both your home's décor and the DVD storage furniture that you shop for. You shouldn't see it as a cumbersome accessory that consumes space in your family room. Most people tend to consider DVD storage furniture as being cheap, but in reality it's often made out of hardwoods and stained glass.
There are many variations of storage and design options that you can select from when searching out DVD storage furniture. It truly doesn't matter what shape or size DVD storage furniture, you can confidently know will be out there for you. It would be a smart decision to think a bit about what is truly important for you so that you have a concept of what to look for once you do go shopping.
It will probably help you if we discuss several basic layouts of DVD storage furniture. One of the most useful formats is the standard rack. Typically the racks offer a double sided storage capability so that you can get almost an entire 360 degrees of storage give you the biggest bang for the buck when talking about floor space that's possible. Cabinets are also out there that feature sliding or pull out storage doors as well. The simple-to-hide fold down storage units are among our favorite though. Without using up all of your floor space, you can use these to keep just about the same number of DVD's as other racks. These are great because you can put them around a couch or behind your bed's headboard.
So hopefully this gives you an idea of what's available and you can find something that best serves your needs.

DVD Storage and Wireless Audio is the way to go
12. November 2009
Have you ever considered how your wiring is laid out of the multiple components of your home theater system.
When manufacturers design and build their individual home theater components, function is normally the major concern and form is far down on the list of concerns. Because of that, home theater wiring can be a real nightmare and this is especially true if you have a surround sound system.
With the speakers being placed all throughout the room, you will have to run your wires all throughout the room in every which way. In the case of certain living situations, such as in condominiums and apartment building, asking for permission to run your speaker wiring through the walls will be quickly denied.
Therefore they are left to lay on the ground or be run against the floor or ceiling trim molding. Your room will appear much more disorganized and be left with appearing as if there is actually less space in the room than there actually is.
Because of this, you should consider spending a little extra money on JBL WIRELESS SPEAKERS. By using a wireless speaker system you can avoid the ugly clutter of surround sound wiring, and typically the prices of a good wireless speakers system isn't much higher than a good wired system. By eliminating the congesting clutter in your home, you begin to remove some of the chaos from it as well.
Using wireless speakers aren't the only way to improve the organization of your entertainment room. It's also reasonable to work on the organization of your digital media such as your DVD's and Blu-Rays. However, JBL WIRELESS SPEAKERS still remain the best bet in my opinion.
In addition, most DVD storage furniture is made out of very nice materials such as stained glass and hardwood. Using an independent piece of DVD storage furniture will allow you to organize your library of media more effectively since there will be more space for all of it.
Enhancing the organization and neatness of your home theater system is a great thing to do and these two tips should help you get there. It's always a step down the right path when you improve the quality of your life by improving your surroundings.
Going ahead and making this minor investment of your time and energy will reap some long term benefits in terms of your sense of relaxation while enjoying your home entertainment center. Along with that, hopefully you can improve your quality of life by improving the conditions you live in.
